Project Starline by Google. Future communication technologies
You see the interlocutor as if through the glass. Almost like in Sci-Fi films.
Google at the Google I/O 2021 event showed a very impressive project called Project Starline. It is not for the consumer market yet.
According to a press release, this is a project that combines advances in hardware and software to make friends, family, and colleagues feel together even when they are in different cities. Assessing the essence of the project is easy thanks to the video below.
The project is based on research in the fields of computer vision, machine learning, spatial sound, and real-time compression. The company has also developed a revolutionary light field imaging system that creates a sense of volume and depth that can be experienced without additional glasses or a headset.
The video looks revolutionary, but it still needs to be assessed in a live look. In addition, now the technology is not consumer level, and Google says that it uses highly specialized equipment that was made to order.
Google also says Starline terminals are testing in their several offices already. At the same time, the company does not specify any terms for the commercialization of the technology but notes that it plans to deliver such installations to corporate clients at the end of the year as part of a pilot project.
